TG in Flintstone

TG was looking around the Bedrock Inn when she heard a voice. Hi, who are you. TG explained she was a travel doll and was visiting for a month in Flintstone. Who are you? I am Ginny Sharon. I was given to linda awhile back by a very good friend whose name was Sharon. I have lived here for awhile. Would you like to take a walk outside TG with me. Oh yes , let's go. Here we are on the patio. Linda raised all of the flowers you see around here in there hot house. The flowers are so pretty. Right around the corner here is a family of chickens. They just hang around. Here are some beautiful sunflowers growing. They are almost as high as the car shed. Linda's birds and guniea pig will love these. Jump aboard the flamingo and see all the black eyes suasans. They are the state flower here in maryland. On this other side of the shed Linda has cherry tomatoes planted. They are so tall and if you look close you can see the tomatoes. Now we will walk out and see the garden. the garden is growing so good this year. We thank God for the rain and sunxhine to help it grow. Here is the cabbage and brocilli growing. We have cooked a good bit of brocilli but waiting on the cabbage to make some cold slaw. Oh my I think there is a person standing inthe garde. No says Sharon we have a scarecrow in there. The deer have been coming in and eating the tops off of the sweet potatoes. The pie pans make noise hanging from it and that scares the deer. Next is the cornfield. We plant 12 rows and then wait and plant 12 more. That way we have corn all summer long. it is so very good. What is in those white boxes i ask Sharon. those are bee boxes. The bees pollinate all the fruit and vegetables here. YIKRESSSSSSS I say. Lets rest here on the tire swing for awhile. The grand children just love this. Whewwwwwwwwwwwwww. Here are some grape vines. There is hanging pots hanging here too. OKay it is getting so hot lets go back in and have a rest. Yes thanks so much Sharon for showing me around. Your welcome. I am so glad you came to visit.

The boys at Flintstone had a busy monday morning and wanted to tell you all about it. Trucks -BIGGGGGGGG truck were up and down our street right in front of our house. MR Fix-It as we call him and the boys decided t go outside to look. It is so very noisy and we are wondering where all the noise is coming from. We yell at one of the men--What is going on: They are about at the post office so we can get a better look. So many trucks up and down. We see a very big dump truck but are not quite sure what it is dumping. It has a strong smell to it like tar. Mom asked Mr Fix-it to move us inside as everything was right in front of the house. Oh my goodness yells Butch they are right dang in front of the house this is so very Exciting. Here comes more says Mike. Now we know they are recapping our road. Last week they dug it up now the big dump truck is dumping black top that is the smell we smell. That is the big roller that smooths it down and it is right where we can see it. Mike says to Butch sure wish we could drive that. Okay boys time to go they are done-okay wasn't that fun they said. Look where the boys were watching from. A great view.

Hitty Laura learns about apple butter:

It is five am on friday morning and I see lights going on. Hitty Laura my person says, Do you want to help us make apple butter today. Yesterday the apples were peeled with our 1889 apple peeler.

This has been in our family for years. It peels and cores apples.

The first things we do is bring the apples out of the shed.

We have eight of these buckets for the apple butter. They have to be washed before they go into the kettle.

Next they go into a copper kettle. We use to use wood underneath the kettle to cook the apples. Now we use a gas burner that is hooked to a gas tank to cook apples. You use a paddle to stir the butter so it does not stick.

After the apples are all cooked up, it is cooked for hours to cook all the water out of it. Then sugar is added to the apples. Then it is cooked another hour. Then the spices, cinnamon, cloves and oil of cinnamon are added to it. The heat under the kettle is turned off and the apple butter is put into jars to seal. We made about 20 gallons of apple butter.

It was a beutiful day, we had so much fun-work and lots to eat. Now we are all resting. Oh my .......what a day zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hitty Maria and Cider Making

Here is the cider press that will crush the apples. It will separate the seeds and peelings and let the cider flow at the bottom to a pan.

First we have to wash all the apples. We had over five bushel to wash. These all were dropped apples that have dropped from the tree to the ground.

The apples go into the top of the press.

Then you turn the crank and the seeds and peelings drop down to the barrel .

Here comes the cider. The barrel has a top to it now and it presses the apples and pushes all the cider out of it.

The pan with the cider then goes over to the table and poured through a cloth to remove any seeds that might of got into the pan.

Then the cider is put through a funnel and into the jug and a lid put on it.

Look at all the gallons we got. We got almost 15 gallons.

The peelings and seeds are put into the scoop of the tractor to be taken down to the cows-they will enjoy them.

This is Marshall and Vianna Fletcher who had the apple press and let us come up and they showed us how to make the cider. Thanks Marshall and Vianna-it was fun and the cider is soooooooo good.

We go down some more steps and read about the falls.

The falls are so noisy but oh so Beautiful/

Another picture of the falls.

Down some more steps and oh my goodness isn't these just gorgeous. We decide to go over to the other side of the falls to see what it looks like from there.

We see something very special in the falls-if you look real close you can see it. it is a promise from God. We hope you can see it.

We leave the falls and head up to canaan Valley to take a ride on the ski lifts. We climb, and climb the mountians. We are way up high and we don't look down.

We then head up to Seneca Rocks for a picnic lunch. We are so busy eating and talking that we all forgot to take pictures.

We go next to a place called Smoke Hole caverns where we see these iceciccles called stalactites and stalamites.

Hitty Gertie says oh myyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy it is so dark-lets go now.We were so glad to get outa there.

We all get back into the car and Linda tells us to rest until we get home. It was such a great day-but our pegs are sore and weeeeeeeeeeee are sooooooo zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz/
